EDITORIAL:
What goes around has come around for Haight. The guy is getting slammed from all sides. In article one, you will see a little of what I'm talking about. You have heard that SPEWS is 'off the net' haven't you? Someone did a DOS (denial of service) on them and ORBS, Haight and several others. After looking into it I believe there is an underground movement to cause them havoc and get them shut down. Imagine that! Read it Here.

I'm going to be changing my National Internet Business Alliance site next week (NIBA) and if anyone has an opinion on the spam issues and what's going on with the FTC and fraud topics, I'd love to hear from you. I'll post your letters at the site. Send them to me at: NIBA.

I know a lot of you have very strong opinions about these subjects so get them in and they don't have to agree with me either. Say what you feel and believe. And, if anyone knows Paul Meyers, tell him I send my regards and to send in his opinions, too. Haven't heard from him in ages. Now, how 'fair and balanced' can I get? ;-) Here is the NIBA site.

Don't miss my article (3) about co-ops. I will be reporting on co-ops in the next 2 or 3 editions depending on feedback. Do you have a story about co-ops? Send them to me and if you want them published, give me permission. Thanks!

From Russia with Love - er, eh, Haight...

Lisa (my partner in the Galleria) sent me an email she received and we investigated it. Here is what it said:

Dear Internet user.
We are an organization dedicated to stopping spam. Please help us as we are funded solely by private donations. visit spamcop for full details. Or you can send your donations to:
Julian Haight
PO Box 25732
Seattle, WA
98125-1232

As you can see by this message unsolicited e-mail is an invasion of your privacy. As you can also see it can be sent anonymously. We will continue our efforts until all spam is eliminated. To join please visit spamcop.net or contact Julian Haight. We will continue to send out this message until we convince all ISP's to stop all spammers!!! Stop low-lifes from invading your inbox with their junk!!!

Now, you and I know that Haight probably wouldn't send this to anyone and since it IS spam (Lisa didn't ask for it) we were curious as to who sent it. Here is our deductions: Lisa did a WhoIs - person: Karsten Pappert - address: IMOCOS AG - address: Goethering 5, 49074 Osnabrueck - phone: +49 541 8603111 - e-mail: kp@ino.de - mnt-by: UUNET-P - source: RIPE

I put Karsten Pappert in Google and found him here - Karsten. There is a picture (scroll down the page) and he is in Russia. Hummmm, wonder what Haight did to him...

The Free Speech Store

TheFreeSpeechStore team.

I have a new friend, Uncle Ricky, at the The FreeSpeechStore. If you are interested in Free Speech visit the site sometime and read the posts. You can post all you want but if you want to read you have to be a member and pay. I did but haven't posted yet. I have a first draft done though and I will put it up soon.

This site is not for the faint at heart as you KNOW how the anti-spammers write - vulgar - but hey, it is the freedom of speech site and what better way to show the intellengence and character of people than to post their words. Take a look and email Rick sometime with comments. Tell him I sent you.

Co-ops - Will They Change with the Times?

Editorial - Co-ops:

I love them. I belong to many (about 20) and they are all special friends. I have used them for 4 years now with success. If you have purchased an ad from a co-op you know what they do and if you are in business it's the best way to get your ads out there in mass.

Personally I haven't found one that is down right no good. Some are better than others and that's true of any type of business. Some owners are more friendly and helpful than others. Some are at war with each other and some just tend to business and say very little. So, what's the point, you ask?

Here it is - Everything changes. With the FTC watching, publishers must be careful of the ads they publish. More and more publishers are sending a link only for their readers to go online and read. We all know why. The bigger nuisance, the advertiser who subscribes, unsubscribes and resubscribes by doing a 'revolving door' thing with co-ops, and a few other factors, has caused me and my buddy, Carmella, after investigating all this to change the way we do things.

I hope we can convince co-op owners to see the wisdom of our actions or we will probably be deleted from a lot of them. All they would have to do is post to their site, that because of the afore mentioned factors, many publishers have taken their new subscriber ads online in attractive formats. We can also email it once a month.

The rule has been that the ads must be emailed within the ezine. Well, we all know what happens to a lot of those issues. At least, I do. They are filtered, blocked and deleted. They never get read.

Now, a publisher goes to a lot of work compiling all those ads in and amongst other content. I believe we all know what our subscribers do with those issues. And, issues that are one big ad with little or no content don't make it to the inbox let alone in the view of the subscriber.

So, bottom line is, Carmella and I have a commitment to our first time subscribers. We are going to get their ads seen by people who WANT to see them - online - with valuable content and in style. We hope the co-op owners go along with us and if not, we understand and we will miss them.

I will be contacting all of them and asking about this and will report what they say, right here, stay tuned.

Outlook Express - Filter This!

Microsoft Junk E-Mail Filter. The Junk and Adult Content filters work by looking for key words. This file is a description of exactly which words the filter looks for and where the filter looks for them. Are you using these words? I just bet you are.

ED NOTE: Another reason to take your ezine and ads online. Too many darn filters out there saving the world! Most ISPs are doing it and tons of hosting companies, too. Many publishers send a link out to their readers right after sending their text or HTML ezines. Makes sense to me to put advertiser's paid ads online so people have a chance to read them.

An elder Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life.

He said to them, 'A fight is going on inside me... it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf represents fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other stands for joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.'

They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather,
'Which wolf will win?'

The old Cherokee simply replied... 'The one you feed.'

TIP FROM KIM:
THE TASK SCHEDULER
needs a password to work. There are some tasks you can automate in Windows XP by using the task scheduler. Click Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Scheduled Tasks, to find it.

In the process of scheduling your task, you'll have to enter your password. But just putting any old password in won't work. You have to enter the password that lets you into Windows XP.

Problem is, perhaps you did not set up a log-in password. That's easy to fix! Click Start> Control Panel. Double-click User Accounts. Click 'Change an account,' then click your account. Click 'Create a password.' Enter the new password in the first two boxes, then enter a hint if you like. Click Create Password. Now that you have a password, you'll have to use it when you start your computer.

ED NOTE: Just got a call from my mom. She said her manager (apts) called her just sick because she spilled greese all down the front of an 80 dollars pants suit she just bought and the stain won't come out. She washed and dried it. The stain was set!

Mom said to bring it to her and she did. Mom soaked it in our soap in hot water for 20 minutes and the stain was gone. Her manager couldn't believe it. She's taking mom out to dinner - wearing the pants suit. How's that for a testimonial...
